There are so many different types of Orthodoxy. I don't know who you had
dealings with, but to lump everybody in together is a huge mistake.
Personally, if I didn't have to work under some many irreligious
circumstances as an actor, I would probably practice Orthodox Judaism. But
working Friday and Saturdays is my bread and butter.

The Reform movement in the US grew early in the 20th century because of the
many Jewish immigrants who were in your circumstance. They had to work or
go hungry, the 6-day work week was the norm, and not many employers closed
on Saturday. Reform synagogues offered Sunday services, and many joined
Reform synagogues for that reason. I don't know of any that do that today,
but when I was growing up in the '30s, one of my aunts and uncles belonged
to such a synagogue in The Bronx.
Contrary to what is sometimes charged, Reform Judaism kept many Jews in
their religion.
