As a kid in Israel, I remember hearing this joke -

Four year old Moishele to his mother
" Mama, when will I learn Yiddish?
- Moishele, you don't have to learn to speak Yiddish... we live in Israel,
the Jewish homeland, and here we speak Hebrew!
- But Mama, how will I speak when I GET OLD???"

I didn't think it was all that funny, but it made sense.  Us kids - we spoke
Hebrew, and the old folks spoke Yiddish.
