RE: Kol Isha

OK, but the fact is that YU does not have any famous Bible women. Smadar
might be first rate, but she is not a Bible scholar, either known, noted or
famous. (For some reason my head tells me that her degree is in history,
but I may be wrong.) Blu is a writer and poet and her past invitations at
YU have nothing to do with her creativity and not her scholarship. She has
only given a few courses over these many years. My point still stands.
There was a young lady named Ilana Bachman at Stern who hopes to become
one, but that is still too early to tell.

To the best of my knowledge, Smadar left Touro and joined the faculty at
Stern. Levin is new on faculty this year. She is young, but is extremely
promising.
As for Greenberg, I would agree that she is not a major Scholar of Talmud
or
Bible. But I think it is significant that YU is willing to give a forum to
a
woman who does not accept the status quo.
I am going to double check on what Smadar is up to, and be happy to eat
crow
if it is warranted. Incidentally, I have heard Smadar on a number of
occasions and think she is first rate.
