OK, he wasn't entirely ignored. I'd like to point out that according to his
biography, he financed the production costs and self-released a number of LP
recordings of his works. Most of the musicians who played on those
recordings rehearsed and performed for free because of their commitment to
Partch's music.

Anyway, I'm not trying to debate this subject with you. I brought this up
because a different person posted that audiences were the arbiters of art,
and I disagree with that statement. Especially because big business packages
and sells the audience whatever dreck they want to sell to them, regardless
of artistic merit.
