At my own wedding, I was surprised when the rabbi started reciting vows for
me to reply "I do" to. There was nothing objectionable in the wording of
the version he used so I had no objection to replying. I don't recall if
this was before or after my wife and I exchanged rings, with the traditional
"haray at mikudeshet li" for the ring I gave my wife, and the "dodi li v'ani
lo" for the ring my wife gave to me.
This was an elderly rabbi in a Conservative synagogue.
