Cantor Robert Abelson and Bernard Fitch are recognized as two of the
world's premiere interpreters of Yiddish art song. Both singers have
appeared on world stages and with world-class orchestras. A colleague of
Yiddish art song composer Lazar Weiner (1897-1982), Abelson premiered over
twenty of Weiner's songs during the 1960s and 70s. He has officiated at
Temple Israel of the City of New York for over twenty years and also
teaches at the Hebrew Union College School of Sacred Music in New York
City. Bernard Fitch is currently a soloist with the Metropolitan Opera.
During the 1960s he served as cantor at the Raleigh Hotel in South
Fallsburg, NY and was also a colleague of Lazar Weiner. Pianist Mimi
Stern-Wolfe has been active in the New York Jewish music scene for over
twenty years and is director of Downtown Music Productions.

The music to be performed will include Yiddish art songs composed by Lazar
Weiner as well as several members of the Society for Jewish Folk Music at
St. Petersburg, who were active in the early part of the twentieth century.
