While we're on the topic of nusach and its appropriateness (or
inappropriateness) to the liturgy, let me ask if anyone knows an alternative
melody for Ashrei. Here is a prayer/psalm expressing utmost joy and awe in
God's creation and benevolence -- sung to one of the most tedious, droning
tunes imaginable -- albeit in a major key. Certainly there must be some more
uplifting, joyous music that expresses the theme more appropriately. Anyone
know of anything? Just curious.
