Re: Songs about food in Jiddisch



Isn't there one that begins:

Amol iz geven a yid, hot er gehat a yidene,
Hot er geheysn, geheysn, zi zol bakn khale oyf shabes...

I don't remember the rest except, as in Lori's Burikes, it's about 
not having enough money to buy what you need to prepare food, in this 
case, to bake bread for Shabbos.

I think the chorus goes something like:

Oy shabes, shabes, shabes...
(can't remember this part)
az z'iz nisht keyn zalts, un nisht keyn shmalts...

Then there's the first verse of my own macaronic Shmir Me on the CD 
of the same name.
