Re: ATTENTION - The German thing...

Regarding Jeffrey Shanzer's statement about German "infatuation with
klezmer music that hasn't extended to other forms of Jewish music":

Berliners and visitors are fortunate to be able to experience the
performances of popular resident Yiddish singers Jalda Rebling, Kartsten
Troyke and Mark Aizikovich--and others-- on a regular basis; none of
them performs klezmer music.

On a recent visit to Berlin, my (non-klezmer) Yiddish album
"Gilgul"/"Transmigrations" well-received by distribution, retail and
radio people, not to mention musicians and music-lovers of every
description.

Klezmer's high profile does not accurately reflect German reality; it
is not every Jewish Music-lover's preference. In the five weeks I spent
in Berlin, while klezmer music could be heard (from several bands, many
comprised of only Gentile Germans) it certainly in no way dominates or
is wholly representative of the Jewish Music scene.
