Lots of wonderful advice has come through the list about using (and
misusing!) your voice. As someone who is involved in music teacher
education and has worked for years as a K-8 music teacher (sometimes up to
10 classes a day), the one thing aside from good vocal technique that has
saved my voice is NOT singing constantly. Don't forget that songleading
does not mean you have to be singing all of the time. Once you teach the
song, back off. By all means, use a microphone to teach new songs, give
directions, and start the group off. But trust that the group memory will
be good, and that a group sound will surface without your voice. You can
still sgow enthusiasm and lead the group successfully without singing every
note.
