Re: Voice

My daughter Carolyn (whom some will remember from last Hava Nashira) developed
vocal nodules at 14. (Big voice for a little girl!) We took her to a Dr. that
Janeen recommended. He sent her to a speech therapist. She spent last summer
(twice a week then once a week ) in therapy. Carolyn found that the way she
was SINGING was not the problem - it was the way she was TALKING. She learned
new habits (LOTS of water etc) and unlearned bad habits (caffeine, talking in
a crowd, etc.) We switched her from voice lessons to clarinet lessons too. She
got breath control & "musicality" - phrasing etc. from the clarinet lessons
which really helped her voice control (plus she went from third clarinet to
first chair first clarinet in 14 weeks!)
