Shalom, everyone!


The publisher/editor of Cool And Strange Music!
Magazine (a 3,600-circulation quarterly aimed
toward devotees of "Incredibly Strange Music,
Exotica, Space Age Bachelor Pad, Lounge, Swing,
Surf, Comedy, Electronic, and offbeat LP
covers"), has invited me to write a 2,500-word
feature article about "the weirdest Yiddish
recordings" for an upcoming edition.

"You can also veer in to Yiddish lounge, which
the wonderful Barry Sisters did so well!",
suggests the zine's publisher/editor, Dana
Countryman. He'd like me to complete the article
by September 1.

Although I have a fairly sizable collection of
odd Yiddish songs (the compilation "From Avenue
A to the Great White Way" has added to it
considerably), I'd love to get in touch with
other folks with stories of odd Jewish
recordings (especially if they have them in
their collection).

If you'd like to be quoted by name, I'd be glad
to do so; however, should you prefer to remain
anonymous, I'll respect your request.

Remember:  the article won't be about weird
Jewish songs in general, but about strange
Yiddish songs. Previous issues of the zine have
explored the lives and recordings of Mickey Katz
and Allan Sherman.

Cool and Strange Music! is published in Everett,
Washington, but is distributed throughout the
United States by subscription, at Tower Records,
and at several national bookstore chains (see
the Web site at www.coolandstrange.com).
