Sorry to leave with a parting shot, but leave I must.

Wolf, I bow to your erudition.  But it seems to me that one might as well say
"It would have been (an act of) decency" as say "It would have been decent."
Remember that the sentence is in English, with an added Yiddish word.

But, WHY???, when the issue of Law with a Capital L is to hand (Capital is
capitalized because that is the real bottom line in religious law come to Earth:
see Taliban, see Fatwah), do we digress into semantics?  Nature of Law, I
suppose, and nature of government: a circus always ready to draw attention away
from the carnage in the center ring to a comedy clown act on the side.  We have
bread, get on with your bloody circus.

I guess the eternal conflict here has worn me down, and this particular issue
has soured me.  As an outsider, I no longer feel competent to comment.
