Re: Russian Tango



I thought it probably had Polish origin if that was from that vintage, but I 
never heard the Russian version.  O Ostata Nidjela (help me out on the 
spelling here, Jerzy) (The Last Sunday) was quite popular in Poland in the 
thirties, and according to Polish-Jewish cabaret historian Marek Gronski was 
one of the quintessential Polish-Jewish Ghetto cabaret tunes.  The lyricist, 
Andre Wlast, perished in the Warsaw ghetto.  -Hankus
