Re: Meaning of "Klezmer"

Lori in Chicago,

One of my points was that the examples that you chose for the so called
Preservationist category were questionable. Given your knowledge of klezmer
music, I could only conclude that the use of the category was problematic.
As it turns out, from Joshua Horowitz's response, it may be correct to say
that no one would like to label themselves as "klezmer preservationists".

On the other hand, you obviously need some general categories for, in your
words, "helping presenters to define what it is that they are looking for".
If those work for you, congratulations.

Just a thought about the "entertainment" category - From the client's
perspective, isn't that just highlighting the difference between a party
atmosphere and a concert? And wouldn't a musician (sounds like it was Alex
Kaufman), having chosen to play music in party settings, have to accept
those occasions when someone puts an empty martini glass on his music stand.
I think it goes with the territory.

BTW, when are you guys going to have another workshop?

Matt
