RE: Jewish rap -- it's Jerusalem v. Tel Aviv, yet!

Here is a report written by a young friend of mine who has studied religious
expression through hiphop as part of his master's thesis.
It might be interesting for this thread.

the first name that comes to mind is Remedy, a

Wu Tang Clan-affiliate - this is the guy that Joe got

onboard with Fuel For Truth - he's from a prominent Staten

Island family and is staunch in his Jewishness - he toured

Israel with another Wu Tang-affiliate Killa Priest - this

could be another angle to pursue.

In New York hip hop, there are some other names to track

  down - Non-Phixion (unclehowie.com) - all-Jewish, very well

respected rap crew - one of the MCs, Ill Bill, has a brother

Necro that might be worth contacting - you can reach him at

  http://www.necrohiphop.com - both Non-Phixion and Necro are

  tough

Jews in the mould of Meir Lansky - this may or may not work

  in your favour.

MC Serch is a legendary MC - he was part of 3rd Bass and

Non-Phixion and is still active in hip hop through his

Serchlight Publishing and other projects - he's not as

self-consciously Jewish as Non-Phix and co and actually had

a falling out with the group - very smart and articulate

  plus a world-class lyricist.

Mr Eon and Might Mi make up the Philadelphia group High and

Mighty - you might have heard Mr Eon on Princess Superstar's

'Bad Babysitter' (her father's Jewish and she's interesting

to talk to about Jews in hip hop) - they have a new record

out plus their own label Eastern Conferance -

  http://www.ecrecs.com.

Behind the scenes there are too many names to mention - the

big ones are Lyor Cohen (born in Israel) who recently made a

move from Def Jam to Edgar Bronfman Jr's Warner Music Group,

Steve Rifkind, formally the man behind Loud Records and now

Street Records Corporation and Paul Rosenberg of Goliath

Artists who handles Eminem and Cypress Hill among others.
