And someone who can pay 80 bucks for a concert ticket has no place in this
conversation. "If they have no bread, let them eat cake," right?



Your reply is indicative of the problems with threads like these ----- They
can quickly degenerate into personal and "less than polite" responses. I
find that your comment is judgmental and inappropriate, i.e. it is not your
business how someone chooses to spend his or her hard earned money. You do
not know their circumstances as they do not know yours.

There is validity to both sides of this discussion; although the harsh
reality is that without funds the synagogues cannot function.  Furthermore,
a significant majority of Jews want the synagogues open and ready to deliver
spiritual warmth only at this time of year. It takes significant planning,
resources, and yes money, to ensure that this can happen. That is a communal
responsibility. Perhaps an offer to volunteer in lieu of paying for tickets
might work.
