Subject: BMG...
I´m playing at BMG headquarters tonight.
Please daven for me... Avraham Baruch ben Elya.
It seems that after twenty years, the
planets are all correctly aligned, and my dream
should actually come to fruition - I will play
tonight for the top echelons of BMG international,
and will meet with their A&R man next week. I expect
to receive a nod for a contract: at least three CDs,
maybe five, optimally ten. The open question is
how well I can convince him in our two-hour meeting.
In the meantime, German newspapers announced last week
that BMG will take over Warner (at least they´ll try,
if that won´t create an illegal monopoly. If
allowed, BMG Warner will become most likely the
biggest CD company in the world, if not already the
biggest), and two months ago BMG Classics shifted its
main office from New York back to Munich. That means
that A&R (Artists and Repertoire) Leins has
extraordinary executive powers now, and
has for years been the biggest fan of my music.
Before, he stood in the shadow of the Business Manager
(Piendl), but now the decision to make me rich, famous
and good-looking lies in his hands.
We´ll meet in his BMG office on Tuesday, and
coincidentally a documentary on my concert at last
month´s Rudolstadt festival will be aired on German
television at precisely that hour. Leins has agreed to
watch with me, in order to see a bit of what
television does with me. This is getting exciting.
Shalom,
Alex
