Also check out Mark Kligman's article on the 
contemporary American Jewish music scene (and its 
antecedents) in the 2002 American Jewish Year Book 
(published by the American Jewish Committee, I think).  
I think Mark may be on this list.  He's a professional 
Jewish musicologist on the faculty of Hebrew Union 
College in NY
