Hope this is still in time to be off help. The Best information is in
print, but with some digging can be found on line. Look for the winter 1998
issue of Judaism. The material mostly covers the American development of
Klezmer music.
Walter Zev Feldman gives a wonderful presentation on the History of
Klezmer development in its five stages but as of yet it is not published in
print.
Beregovski gives a history in the just published in the English language
translation of Jewish Instrumental Folk Music (Syracuse press). It may
possibly be the best written history currently available even though it is
shaded in the time it was written (in Stalinist Russia). It covers the
European development. (Ari are you interested in me writing a review for the
web site?)
