The biggest problem with mp3s is that these files are compressed which
usually means that the elements of the file are kind of squished together in
such a way that bits of data can be tossed out. Well, a lot of people are
using this format now because of the amazing file-size reduction. But, if
you listen to the same songs on a CD and compare them to the mp3 version,
it's obvious that too much information is gone--the quality is not there. If
you want to maintain the integrity of the original recording as much as
possible then you'll want to avoid mp3 compression. It would be better to
pull in all the data, clean it up as needed, and then burn it to CD with all
the data intact. Afterwards, if you need to use mp3s, for samples on your
website for example, you can generate them very easily from the CDs.
