Dear Friends:
I am preparing a radio show on the music of exile and songs concerned with
the loss of a homeland. My preferred focus will be music that resulted from
a large group of people uprooted, as opposed to the individual exile, but I
won't let that get in the way of great music. The show will have some
Jewish selections but be predominantly from other traditions. I'm pretty
well covered on the Al Naharot Bavel/By the waters of Babylon/Psalm 137 and
Sephardic front, but would appreciate more interesting/obscure Ashkenazi
selections.
Separately from this list's focus, I would be particularly interested in
Native American selections and selections from South America, Asia and
Africa, in addition to more obscure European examples. Kindly send me your
suggestions, on the list if you think they would be of general interest,
else private email would be fine.
Thanks!
Joel
