Hello, All;
I'm very interested in this thread, and in Yankl Falk's recent comments on the
subject, because during the past year or so I've been establishing the Esther
Leibovitz Archives of Jewish Recorded Sound here in Toronto. I play in a
Community
Klezmer Orchestra, and the Archives were first established to allow exactly
what Jack
is talking about; accessability of Jewish material for interested parties to
study.
The nucleus of this collection is my own rather large collection of Jewish 78s
of all
descriptions, and recently, I've had some donations. In order to build up the
archives, I'm offering to transfer old Jewish 78s to cassette or CD, and return
the
records to the original owner, or keep the records if the owner doesn't want
them
anymore, and store them and give them a good home. I have top-notch equipment;
a
variety of Stanton cartridges and styli, a top-of-the-line Thorens turntable, a
CD-R
by Ricoh, and a myriad of computer software that I'm continuing to add to.
If you know of anyone who would be interested in lending or donating recordings
in
exchange for a cassette or CD of the material, please point them in my
direction.
Regards,
Steven ("Shlomoe Volf") Lederman
bass saxophonist
