RE: klezmer trumpet

It's strange. I've actively been into Klezmer for 5-6 years, but until I
started listening my preconception of a Klezmer band was trumpet,
clarinet, trombone, (maybe) violin and a rhythm section. Maybe it's
because I came of age in the 50s and the little bit of exposure I had to
Klezmer was Mickey Katz. I don't know. It took me a while to appreciate
things like flutes, clarinet and fiddle sharing lead (maybe because I'm
a clarinetist :-), but in my particular background at least the trumpet
was a very important instrument.

I also think that a trumpet gives a Klezmer band a "kick" that's hard to
get otherwise and gives the clarinetist more freedom to improvise
harmonies,
trills, shmirs, etc.
