Re: Back of the bus?

Lynn, I understand your frustration. (I feel your pain?)

However, just because your beliefs don't jive with theirs is not a reason to
condemn them, is it?

Do you realize that one very real reason for a mechitzah is NOT to
discriminate against women? We were always told it was due to the weakness of
men, who are unable to think about anything for more than two minutes without
straying back to sex. Who am I to argue? In some synagogues, I have seen
women with such hot outfits that I concentrated on nothing else during the two
hours I was there. And I am certain that many men are also as "weak" as I am
in overcoming our animal instincts. The Mishnah in Pirkei Avot (Sayings of
the Fathers) says "Who is strong? He who can overcome his evil inclinations!"
Obviously, the need for a mechitzah acknowledges that we inferior men have yet
to learn to conquer these urges.

Therefore, Lynn, be not offended!

Shabbat Shalom, Brian
