Re: Getting to Know You

OK Adrian, nice idea. Here goes:

I'm David Jaffe. I've been sitting in the wings listening with interest to
your ongoing discussions of songleading/copyright ethics and combing the Hava
Nashira entries for familiar names.

I am the Music Director, volunteer choir director, religious school music
provider and part-time chazzan for the Harford Jewish Center, a small rural
UAHC affiliated synagogue which serves (or attempts to serve) the religious
needs of all Jews in a broad two county area of northern Maryland. I was a
NFTY songleader at Kutz Camp and Camp Coleman in the late 70's-early 80's,
and a regional songleader in the midwest and on the Atlantic coast for some
years before and after. I have been a partner in several 'Jewish-Folk' duos,
most recently with my wife, Carol. I also had the privilege of singing with
the Yiddishe Cup Klezmer Band for several years, which stimulated in me a
continuing love and appreciation for yiddish music.

I live in Churchville (sic!), Maryland with Carol and our sons, Micah (2 1/2)
and Eli (8 months). When I'm not changing Huggies, I practice dermatology in
Havre de Grace, MD (pronounced 'haver duh grase').

I've never been to Hava Nashira but hope someday that my kids will let me go!

Jewish music has been a profoundly motivating force in my life. Even though
I don't know any of you who have been posting recently, I feel a strong sense
of connectedness, of shared purpose and experience and, with some, shared
history. I look forward to more stimulating discussion.
