Okay Adrian -
I am Alice Weinstein. For the past eight years I was connected with Jewish
music as a teacher in supplemental schools, co-chair of the CAJE Music
Network, and as the designer of a music curriculum for The Suburban Temple
Religious School in Beachwood, OH (which won the NATE curriculum award two
years ago.)
My indoctrination to music began at the cradle, as both of my parents sing
and have sung in our temple's professional choir for over 50 years. Shabbat
dinner was at 5:00 every week so they could be at temple by 7:00 and my
earliest memories of our old temple (before we moved out into the heights)
were of looking down at the congregation through the peep holes in the wall
of the choir loft.
I have some formal training in music, but a great deal was through osmosis.
At present I am the Director of the Akron Jewish Community High School, which
leaves me out of the loop of directly teaching in a formal way, but I get my
Jewish music "fix" every Shabbat when I co-lead our Library Minyan at
Fairmount Temple in Beachwood, OH.
B'Shalom
