e-mail of introduction

Seeing my ol' college buddy David Jaffe post his introduction,
I figured I'd send mine! (Hi, Dave!)

I'm Scott Cantor, an amateur pianist. I got into NFTY-type music
beginning in the late 70's, during my Long Island youth group days.
(I remember attending a Kol B'Seder concert when they
were an entire band in December, 1976.) UAHC Camp Coleman and Hillel
experiences reinforced my love for listening and singing this music
as a part of prayer and building a Jewish community.

About 3 years ago, I found out that some of this music was available
for piano and started collecting and playing this sheet music.
(Most recently, I've been playing 'detective' in searching for
sheet music for some of the songs published in the NFTY Chordster,
but not in the NFTY 50, Kol B'Seder, or Debbie Friedman collections.
I posted an e-mail to Hanashir looking for some unpublished music
a few months ago -- even when I've written the composers, some of
the music is not available! Unfortunatly, I can't play by ear, so it
would take a ridiculously long time to write it out myself.)

Earlier this year, I began to accompany our synagogue's cantor
during religious school, and hope to convince him that this
informal/camp/NFTY (what should we call it?) music
is another way to get kids to enjoy singing.

In the "real world," I'm a decision scientist (applied mathematician)
at a comprehensive cancer center, working on problems in
clinical decision making.
