I can't elaborate on this from an historical or linguistic viewpoint,
but all I can tell you is that ALL the Israelis in my school say, "Chag
Chanukah sameach."
And I wish you all the same! Here's to a very happy and healthy 2004
(boy doesn't that sound strange........)

I understand from our rabbi emeritus that Hanukah is not a "chag" - a
foot
festival, which means that "Chanukah Sameach" is correct, but not "Chag
Sameach". Could someone more learned than I please elaborate on this?
Thank you.
