[HANASHIR:15710] RE: More Software and technical questions

Following up--I have yet to find a portable MP3 Recorder/Player (ala the
Pogo RipFlash or the Archos Jukebox or the iPod) that has an actual stereo
microphone input.) Most of these devices have digitial voice recording via
an internal microphone, but the quality would be quite poor for
voice/musical recording. You could connect (and I believe Pogo sells) a
pre-powered microphone that would connect to the line level inputs of the
RipFlash, or connect the line level oputput of a small portabel mixer to
which you had conncted a microphone, but once again this makes the
"portability" an issue.

It's only a matter of time before someone creates a true portable digital
recorder capable of accepting direct microphone inputs--until then, we're
all stuck cobbling together solutions.

FWIW, the Marantz PMD670 has been getting rave reviews from some journalists
I know. But $700 is a lot to spend. It is also limited in recording time by
the size of the media you use. A typical 64Mb CF card will hold about one
hours worth of mp3 format recording at a 128kbps bitrate (considerably more
at lower bitrates.)
