One can be pretty sure that Kaufmann did not translate his own article -
all of the language in the Annual is like that. I do work as a translator
and editor from several East European languages, and this classic "Boris
Badanoff" style came from centralized government translation offices, most
of which were tossed out after 1989.

It would be a cheap shot to make fun of the English (probably his fifth
or sixth language) of a noted Bulgarian ethnomusicologist, even if the
mocker were capable of writing flawless Bulgarian...
