<< Passing fad? Hopefully, yes. I've said it on this list a long time ago-
there's something sacriligeous about pop-kaballah and the cultlike
organizations which try and sell the public such packages.
It is unfortunately that certain "Rabbis" are willing to sell Judaism,
especially to the "Hollywood" set...typically, this 'fad' comes from the
center of "kitsch" Los Angeles. The "Rabbi" who is promoting Kabbalah (to the
stars) out here has been written up in many Jewish & non-Jewish newspapers
as a charlatan and his organization...which unfortunately is now world
wide--as nothing more than a cult and BIG money maker.
Many of these celebrities come to us looking for "Kabbalah Music" and with my
usual tact and gentle way, I tell them what I think of this 'teacher'.
This week end I stopped by a grocery store where there is a bulletin board on
which anyone can post their adds for garage sales, cars for sale, massages,
and lost dogs. There was also a posting by this "Kabbalist" who was
advertising a FREE open house with finger-painting for the kids, AND, if you
signed up for the courses on the same day, you get a 15% discount!! Next to
his add, was a posting for a "sensual" massage by Jessica...I have a feeling
she has more integrity.
A few years ago we shipped 5 Chanukah CDs to Madonna, so , using the mystical
power of numbers and letters you get : 3
Dennis Rodman + 5 Chanukah Cds = Kabbalah for the Hollywood Set
