I've come to the conclusion that the main problem
is that new users are simply overwhelmed by the sheer amount
of output we generate each day. Recently, two of those
spammers stated that as the reason to unsubscribe.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to make "digest-mode"
the default mode on subscription? I think that
the regular list mode should be reserved for
more advanced users.
