Sorry, Wolf - that was an attempt at humor that failed.  The only possible 
way to have overdubbed in 1916 would have been to make a record,
play it back n a room with the player and re-record acoustically,
the results of which would have been quite terrible.  And so much
cheaper in those days to just hire another musician anyway than to
waste wax like that!
