Yeah, I was wondering about that. What makes folks do it (because I
have recommended both in the same breath (mahal lanu yoshoanu ki
fasha'anu) is each group is doing - boy, any phrase I use here will
be offensive - um "early music", something other than "how fast can
this guy play clarinet".
They do almost become a genre unto themselves, and yet the sound of
each is so very different. I guess abit like saying "Nifty and Tarras"
in the same breath.
Khasene on a Kale is a beautiful, beautiful record, and the liner notes
alone are worth the price of admission. To me, the most insightful
line in the notes is
In the absence of the most profound ritual expressions which the
nuptuals has brought forth throughout the centuries,
the modern wedding has gained in buoyancy what it has lost in gravity.
WHAM!
And if you buy the disk and read the notes and understand a little
history, the title Khasene on a Kale becomes real obvious.
Has anyone mentioned how to get it? Yoshua is probably too honorable to
make a blatant pitch. But if you go to
http://members.styria.com/budowitz/pages/wwab.html
he lists the places you can buy from in your part of the world.
This is a CD that deserves much broader distribution, "not available
in stores" as they say.
