Re: sherele

I don't know if this is an isolated case, but my friend Isaak Loberan
recently brought back a Sherele from a pre-war(?) book printed in
Sokireany Ukraine. Health and time permitting, we will be doing field
work together there in April, at which time I hope to find more info
about this. The melody to this tune is unknown here, in freygish, and
strangely, has 1 bar in the 3rd section which is in
3/4??? Also in the Kostakowsky there are assymetric bar lengths to be
found, which would imply 2 things:

1) Very confined regional variants of the dance with music which was
specifically constructed to the dance figures

2) Very sloppy proofing of the printed notations.

I forgot to mention in the previous posting that Moshe Bick also notated
a pre-war Shneyders Sher in Orhei/Dubasari Moldavia... Josh
