[HANASHIR:14675] Re: guitar advice (I say steel string)

I've been teaching and playing guitar for 30 years and classical guitars
have their own problems. The neck is wider and difficult for beginners. If a
13 year old wants to play pop/rock/punk etc he/she should play a guitar that
will eventually sound like what he hears in his head. Steel is not much
harder than nylon and their are light gauge strings and even silk & steel.
For $300.00, if you're willing to buy used, you can find an excellent non
laminated guitar. I've worked with many session players in L.A. who paid no
more than that for their acoustic which they play on film/tv soundtracks and
cds. Try Yamaha, Takamine, Sigma, you could even find a used Martin
(laminated)

It's all a matter of how willing you are to search. Try to bring someone who
plays with you.

Hope that doesn't confuse the issue.
