I own a thin little book of music carefully edited by Henry Lefkowitch,
self-published in 1917. The cover bears the title "Yiddishe Gesangen,"
while the title page says "Yiddishe un Hebreishe Lider; Folks un
Natsyonale." Its 28 songs (melody lines or simple duets only) are
meticulously credited as to lyricist and composer (or "folk"). While
several songs list Henry Lefkowitch as the arranger, only two are credited
to him as composer; in addition, they are copyrighted by him 1917. These
two are his settings of "Natsyonal Gefil" by Yehoash, and of "Khanike
Likht" by Morris Rosenfeld. The latter is =not= the setting by Zavel
Zilberts published by Metro Music which is copyrighted in 1937 by Henry
Lefkowitch.
