There are lots of 'mom & pop' sites out there which provide exposure to
artists. What was great about mp3.com was the 'brand recognition'- a huge
site where the whole world would go to check out unheard music.
Not to discourage your own goals in setting up a site- best of luck with it
if you go through with it. But mp3 in it's prime was a huge global clearing
house for unknown artists.
