It also occur to me that if you really want to stretch it, any of Rodgers
and Hammerstein Orientalist musicals -- South Pacific, The King and I, or,
perhaps best, Flower Drum Song, combine and "Asian" sound with Jewish
creative forces. Stephen Sondheim's Pacific Overtures might qualify as
well.
By the way, contrary to what some folks might think, lots of Asian-American
people love Flower Drum Song, including renowned playwright David Henry
Hwang, who rewrote the book for the production that is currently running on
Broadway.
