RE: cimbaloms available

For tsimblist wannabes:

Another source of tsimbls is James Jones, who mostly makes Appalachian
instruments. Beverly Woods, who plays and teaches tsimbls in New
Hampshire, designed a "student" model tsimbl that James makes and sells
for only $400, and a somewhat larger model of the same which is $600. I
have the first of James's larger ones.

James's instrument is very plain, and its soundboard is plywood, so this
is not a concert instrument (either in appearance or sound volume). But
it's fine for learning on, without investing the $2000 or more that most
of the alternatives cost, and it's also loud enough accompanying one or
two instruments.

Each instrument is made to order. James kindly accommodated my request
to build in a color-coding system on the bridges that helps to identify
notes (black and white corresponding to piano keys), which he would
presumably also do for anyone who asked for it.

Khaveyrim,

I have some very good news for the tsimbalists among you.

While recording with Alex Fedoriouk and others yesterday, he told me
that he makes cimbaloms and is taking orders. I will give you more
specifics as he sends them to me.
