I don't suppose Ms. Isbin would intentionaly misinform her public, if the
song is sephardic its a recent finding. It was orrigionaly, a piano piece,
then was arranged for guitar. the melody was always said to be Moorish in
orrigion, that is murky at best, but that is what was said. Its such a
common sort of melody, scalar , its a parlor hit for classical giutar very
popular with the blue haired ladies, but it sounds more like a case of a
"traveling melody" being lately atributed to the sephardim. has anything
been published lately that would confirm the atribution ? one of the best
things about this particular molody is that no one has been tempted to sing
it, neither male or female, so it will not trigger a Kol Isha debate. FWIW ,
I am very sure that Mariah Carey got all her licks from Cantor Rosenblatt
and that the whole of American popular music would be impossible with out
the existance of jewish liturgic melody and cantoral practice. This may be
a minority view. AW
