Also note the fiddler is holding the bow in the left hand and the instrument
in the right, or rather, straight ahead. no chin rest... too early for that
...although it appears to be resting on the shoulder and his head is leaning
in on the instrument. Viol is smaller than today's cello. Note the large
size of the woodwind as well. This is a wonderful piece for historical
knowledge of the instruments, isn't it?

in the lower left hand section, there are a group of musicians with the
women,  and then someone carrying an  object under his right arm.  It looks
like he is cranking it with his left hand.  Is that some sort of musicial
instrument?
