Re: greetings- off topic, but current, more

To be more precise, I'm referring to the Purim Songster section of a soft
spiral bound collection of song lyrics "Compiled and Edited by Harry
Coopersmith, Music Dir. J.E.C., published by the Jewish Education Committee
Press (of NY), 5th edition, 1946. The Table of Contents for the section lists
"Chag Purim" (Words by L. Kipnis -- Folk Song). Where the lyrics themselves
are printed, there is (as #3. on the top of p.4) a song in Hebrew is printed
with "Songs of Zion", H. Coopersmith is printed beneath the song title.
Therefore, I deduced (correctly?)that the lyricist was L. Kipnis and the
collector was H. Coopersmith.

The song begins, "Chag Purim, chag Purim. Chag gadol hoo lay'hudim." (My free
transliteration.) I readily recognized this song from my youth and, I believe,
from recordings. So I assumed (correctly?) that it might well be the song to
which Robert Cohen was referring.

Wouldn't a listing of Kipnis indicate he collected it rather than wrote it?
Which song are you referring to?

Isn't there a sort-of chestnut contemporary song that refers to "Chag

Purim"

as well?
