Re: Yiddish Czardas sheet music

I'm curious: What makes these pieces that were mentioned "Yiddish Czardas" as
opposed to "Hungarian Czardas"?

Dear Helen, some information:

Sheetmusic can be found in the famous Kammen Folio's No. 1 and No.9
Kammen Folio no.1:
page 49 (no number ; should be No.41)   Hungarian Czardas (Russian Wengerka)
page 50 No.42 Hungarian Czardas
page 51 No.43 Hungarian Czardas

remark.1: No.41 is just in front of the music numbered 525,
Which indicates that it is probably from another publication.
remark 2: No.41 can also found as Russian Wingerka in
The Ultimate Klezmer (alias Kostakowsky) p. 159
see also page 115 - 122 (8 Hungarian Csardas melodies)

   Kammen Folio No.9
   page 18 No.33 Hungarian Czardas
   page 19 No.34 Hungarian Czardas

Just for fun, I add a list of recorded Czardas music by Klezmer Bands

There are only two csardas melodies recorded in the the Pre-war Period as we can learn from Spottwoods Discography.
- M. Stroganoff (1919)
- G. Matusewitz (1922)
As far as I know these are not re-issued

In the Pre-revival period (1943-1976)
you can find one
- on Tikva T-78 named ³Csardash² by the Tikva Chassidic Orchestra (late 1950¹s)
- on Time Records 52181 ³Monte¹s Csardas² by Danny Albert and his Orchestra
- (tape Kurt Bjorling: Max Yankowitz/ Joseph Moskowitz)
  Joseph Moskowitz: Czardas (1954)
-  Rounder CD 1126 The Art of The Cimbalom, (reissued 1996)
track 9: Hungarian Czardas (recording date 14 ferb. 1916)

Revival Period (after 1976)
- Wergo SM 1611-2 : Kings of Freylekh Land, Epstein Brothers Orchestra
track 13 : four csardas as titled ³Hungarian Melodies² (19..)
- Golden Gate Gypsy Orchestra, avkodisc 1988 ACD 10105
  track 12: Monti¹s Csardas
- Acum CD 77001: Kleizmer, Band of Rafael Kunsman, (?1992)
  track 10: Tshardash
- Maxwell Street Klezmer Band: ³Maxwell Street Days² Global Village
  CD1986, (I believe recently re-issued)
track 13. Czardas Monti/ Hotcha Cornia
- Epstein Brothers "Judaic International² EB Vol III-IV.
Disc Two (Vol IV) track 1 Hungarian Medley (prob. Csardas)

I don¹t know if these are danceble.

Probably there are Csardas melodies recorded under other names
without the additional word Csardas,
which are only recognizable by hearing.

All the best
