Yes, after seven years of sponsoring the Annual Midwest Klezmer and Yiddish
Music Institute, the Kaplan JCC (Skokie) is pulling out. They feel they
can't justify any cultural programming that cannot pay for itself. (I even
worked out a proposal that almost paid for everything, including Illinois
Arts grant money which was promised). It looks like other arts
organizations are going to have to take over the job of preserving Yiddish
culture!

Jewish programming? Supposedly no money in this.
Because of lack of interest on the part of the JCC's and synagogues and
Jewish Day schools to sponsor Israeli and Jewish recreational dance at their
facilities, there are few dancers around with which to form these troupes.
And nobody will pay the organizer, leader, choreographer.
