Of the bands listed on the KlezmerShack, I'd certainly start with Margot
Leverett, who is on this list. Or Jeff Warschauer and Deborah Strauss, in
Brooklyn. But whenever I try to go further, I ask myself "oldskool" meaning,
what? Klezmer as it was played in New York 100 years ago? Klezmer as we think
it was played in Europe prior to the Holocaust, and even back a hundred or two
hundred years? And if I mentioned bands like Metropolitan Klezmer or Hester
St., I'd also have to mention excellent nearby bands like Klezical Tradition.
There are at least a dozen or so bands that qualify just that are listed on the
KlezmerShack.
