Re: "Be'arvot Hannegev"



I don't know about Moroccan uses of the melody of "Bearvot hanegev," but the
Israeli song is an adaptation of a 1943 Soviet song about a partisan dying on
the edge of a forest, "Na opushke lesa," words by Petr Mamaichuk, music by
Leonid Shokhin.  Not surprisingly, numerous early Israeli songs were set to
Russian or Polish melodies; this is one case where the text is almost a
translation.
