Although at one time there was a rumor that "Ma-Yofis" was a
pseudonym for Bialik, Yisroel-Avrom Ma-Yofis (his real name) was a Hebrew
and (primarily) Yiddish writer of poetry, stories, plays, monologs,
reportages etc. and translator into Yiddish from Hebrew (Bialik, Judah
Halevi, Ibn Gabirol), Russian, Polish and German. He was born in 1897 in
Lithuania and died of tuberculosis in Cologne in 1930. (from a longer entry
in the _Leksikon fun der nayer yidisher literatur_)
