I agree.  Actually, the description reminded me of what one of the 
Byrds--was David Crosby one?  I have a mental picture of him saying 
this--said in an excellent PBS special about Dylan & the Beatles 
("Shakespeare in the [i.e., Tin Pan] Alley," I think it was called, which is 
a pretty good title) about the Byrds' setting of "Mr. Tambourine Man."  
Nothing like an exact parallel, but he also talked about 'we mixed in a 
little of this and a little of that, a little sort-of-Bach (which we 
demonstrated) and ... etc.'
